Recovering from a motorcycle accident in 2009, Wayne Sides suggested using the time to record a new Bare Knuckles album with tight focus on the roots of their music. J. J. Burgess joined the project to contribute masterful old time fiddle and Jake Berry picked up a banjo and began writing songs. Maxwell D. Russell returned to contribute songs of his own as well as guitar and additional fiddle playing. Rich Curtis dropped in on the sessions to record vocals for some of the songs that Sides had written and also composed a song for the set that ties the album as firmly to the Mississippi delta as to the Appalachian mountains. The end result is simultaneously the most primitive and the most eclectic Bare Knuckles album.
